What it’s about
We are living through one of the most decisive decades in human history.
in print and as an e-book
Maybe you can feel it. In the tiredness you can’t quite shake. In the growing unease when you read the morning headlines. In the quiet doubt whether what you do — at a big desk or with honest hands — is still good for you and for the world.
What if this feeling is the beginning of something?
You see it all around you. The rising cost of living. Rents that are pushing whole generations out of their own cities. Caregiving that breaks the people who give the care. Politics that has gambled away our trust. And the growing knowledge that we are on the way to losing this world — that if we carry on like this, we will leave the generations after us nothing but rubble.
Maybe you have already asked yourself whether this is really the failure of individual people — or whether there is something deeper that connects all of these crises.
In this book, you will see:
It doesn’t have to be this way.It is architecture —and architecture is something we can change.
Today we have everything we need to build a humane world — a world in which you and the people you love could live happy, contented lives again. A world in which the system serves life again, instead of life serving the system. The tools are here. The evidence already exists. All that is missing is putting it into practice.
-
The diagnosis
Why the crises of our time follow from blueprints, not from bad people — from the living rooms of our childhood to the algorithms of global corporations.
-
The goal
A world in which trust is no longer a risk: with time for what makes people creative, and room for nature to heal.
-
The blueprint
How we can build it with tools that already exist: from blockchain and artificial intelligence to communities of shared values that are already showing it can be done.

For Christmas 2026
The First to Stand Up
The Christmas Truce of 1914 and the Courage to Leave Our Trenches
There is a silence that is peace. And there is a silence that only holds its breath.
Many of us know the second kind. It sits with us at the table at Christmas, when everyone smiles and no one says what they think. When a single wrong word could shatter the whole evening.
Flanders, Christmas Eve 1914. Between the trenches lie barbed wire, frozen earth and the dead of recent weeks. Anyone who raises his head risks his life. Then, across the way, candles flicker into light. Someone is singing. And at some point a soldier climbs out of his trench, unarmed, and walks towards the enemy.
What makes a man the first to stand up when everything in him says stay down? And why do we find it so hard – at our own tables, where no one is shooting at us?
Drawing on the letters and accounts of the men who were there, Bernd tells the true story of that night. He tells of the Christmases of his childhood, which were silent but not peaceful. And he follows the question that links the two right into our own time: in families, among friends and between nations.

Bernd plans to use the income from this book to set up a non-profit company. Its particular concern will be children who are growing up in difficult circumstances.
That night, courage was enough to begin a peace. For it to last, it needs a home.
How world peace can come about, and what architecture can carry it for longer than one night, is the story of The Humane World Formula.
